The 8 Phases of Implant Treatment
The first consultation clarifies your suitability, expectations, and medical history. This is followed by a clinical examination and, as a rule, 3D imaging (CBCT).
Medical History & Consultation
Medical history, medications (especially bisphosphonates, blood thinners), smoking status, expectations. Duration: 20–30 min.
Clinical Examination
Palpation of the jawbone, assessment of gums and adjacent teeth. No pain, only light pressure.
CBCT / 3D X-ray
Cone-beam computed tomography shows bone height, width, quality, and nerve pathways. Radiation dose: approx. 6–50 µSv (very low). Duration: 15–20 min.
Treatment Plan & Cost Estimate
Written documentation of all planned measures with cost breakdown. Basis for claims with your supplemental insurance.
What You Will Feel in Each Phase

| Osseointegration (Healing Phase) | First 1–2 weeks mild pressure soreness. Afterwards: no discomfort. Normal life is possible. | 3–6 months |
| Uncovering & Impression | Minimal procedure. Mild pressure soreness for 1–2 days. | 1–2 appointments |
| Crown Placement | No pain. Slight foreign body sensation for 1–2 days until you get used to the crown. | 1 appointment |

Common Concerns — And What They Really Mean
No Pain During the Procedure
Local anesthesia completely eliminates pain. You will feel pressure and vibration — this is normal and harmless.
Post-procedure Pain is Manageable
Most patients take ibuprofen for 2–3 days. Severe pain after more than 5 days is rare and should be reported to your doctor.
Swelling is Normal
Swelling in the jaw after the procedure is a normal sign of healing. It subsides within 3–5 days. Cooling helps.
The Waiting Period is Not a Problem
During osseointegration, you can live normally. Temporary restorations are possible so you are not aesthetically compromised.
Afraid of the Dentist?
Nitrous oxide sedation is widely available in Vienna and often partially covered. You remain conscious but are relaxed and pain-free.
