From Facial Scan to Digital Twin: 4 Steps

Structured light or photogrammetry captures the facial surface in milliseconds — with a precision of less than 0.5 mm. The facial scan provides data that DVT and intraoral scan cannot capture: lip line, smile line, facial symmetry, soft tissue support. This information is essential for aesthetic planning of anterior restorations and full rehabilitations.

Clinical Applications

The digital twin is created by fusing three datasets: DVT (bone, roots, anatomy), intraoral scan (tooth surfaces, occlusion), and facial scan (soft tissue, aesthetics). The fusion enables planning that considers all relevant structures simultaneously — a possibility that does not exist with analog methods.

Quality Standards of the Institute

Based on the digital twin, the planned restoration is virtually built up — the digital wax-up. The patient sees the planned result before a single grinding movement is made. The digital wax-up can be directly transferred to a mock-up — a temporary restoration that shows the planned result in the oral situation.

Digital jaw movement analysis systems (e.g., jaw motion tracking) capture the patient's individual movement patterns and integrate them into the digital twin.
