Dental Bridge: What Patients Should Know – clinical presentation
1

1. Bridge or Implant?

A dental bridge closes a tooth gap by resting on adjacent teeth. This is tried and tested for decades — but has a decisive disadvantage: the adjacent teeth must be ground, even if they are healthy. An implant avoids this, but is more expensive and requires a surgical intervention.

Bridge makes sense when…

Adjacent teeth already need crown restoration
Implants not possible for medical reasons
Insufficient bone for implant
Quick restoration desired (no waiting time)

Implant better when…

Adjacent teeth healthy and should remain untouched
Long-term solution with bone preservation desired
Multiple teeth missing (implant bridge)
Younger patients with long life expectancy

What is Prosthodontics?

Prosthodontics deals with the replacement of missing or severely damaged teeth with artificial restorations. Modern prosthodontics uses digital procedures (intraoral scanner, CAD/CAM) for precise, aesthetic and long-lasting results.

The goal is the restoration of chewing function, aesthetics and quality of life — with materials that come as close as possible to natural teeth in appearance and function.
